How it started...
The Recipe to Success...
Clairey Fairy Cakes started when I lost my place at University, I was going to study fashion photography but just a few weeks before I was due to start the course was cancelled due to the lack of Government funding. So that's when the idea came to start a cake business as I had always made cakes for friends, family and even my teachers at school! I decided with the help of my mum to get 10,000 leaflets printed and hand deliver them within Billericay and some surrounding areas. We used to be out leaflet dropping and people would be phoning me to order a cake before I'd left their road! It was a great success, I was soon taking over my parents kitchen as the orders were becoming more frequent to the point where it was too much to cope within a domestic kitchen. That's when I decided to look for a shop in the high street to expand my fledgling business. I only really wanted to have a cake business but ended up with a Cafe' too as the perfect shop premises already had an existing Cafe'. So the challenge began, a Cafe' and Cake shop at just 19 years old with no experience and a self-taught baker!! I learnt so much as I went along and both were a great success with the help and support of my family. After just under 8 years of running the business I decided the time had came to close the doors on the Cafe' and just continue with the cake business as I found out I was expecting my first baby in August 2019. It would have been too much to run both and I wanted to concentrate on my passion which has always been cakes. Ironically the Cafe' was doing the best it ever had at the point we decided to close, but as they say its best to finish on a high!
So now I have two beautiful girls, my eldest Rosie and baby Chloe so I'm slowly getting back into cake making! Life is full on with two little ones and a business to run but I wouldn't change it for the world. I make cakes for every occasion and I love creating dessert tables which are proving ever more popular.
